Forests of Marin : When was the last time I used a tilt-shift for landscapes? It'd be a while, that's for sure. I grabbed it, forcing myself to shoot whatever came along however I could. I've made that mistake before.

Autumn in the Valley : Taking a day to enjoy Yosemite with two fellow landscape shooters. We hoped to snowshoe through Mariposa Grove, but it ended up being too warm and very wet. Still, there was lots to see and shoot in just a few short hours.

SF Stairway Hike: Four Hills : It was a gorgeous (if cold) day and what else to do but go for a nice strenuous hike around one of the most scenic neighborhoods in SF? We took the dog this time, since it was a nice day and he misses the city as much as we do.

This hike hopped us from hill to hill: Kite Hill, Tank Hill, Mt Olympus and Corona Heights Park. I actually wish that it was as light and easy as a "hop" but it was more like "Oh god, it's STILL uphill?"

At the end, we actually only hit three of the four hills in Hike #27. We were short on time and also quite hungry. Plus, we've already visited Corona Heights many times in the past.

SF Stairway Hike: Telegraph Hill : I'm not sure where this gallery will go eventually, but we recently started exploring our gorgeous city. There are so many wonderful pieces of forgotten history around here!

This gallery is dedicated to our stairway hike around Yerba Buena Cove and Telegraph Hill. More to come as soon as I get a chance.

We are so unbelievably lucky to be able to follow our dreams and live here, even for a short time. I am so grateful for this, and to have such a willing partner.

SF Stairway Hike: Potrero Hill : It's becoming a holiday tradition, doing a stairway walk on a holiday when everything is closed.

Hike #22 in the book takes you all around Potrero Hill. We got to explore one of our favorite neighborhoods in San Francisco with a Kodak Duaflex II.

Zymoglyph Beach : On Obscura Day, 2011, we got tickets to the Zymoglyphic Museum in San Mateo, CA. It took about 15 minutes, then it was lunchtime.

The day was too pretty to waste, so we took a drive up through the city to Muir Beach.

Carrizo Sunrise : The Carrizo Plain is a short hop south. The valley between the hills is teeming with life, abuzz with insects and animals of all shapes and sizes.

Zen Near Zin : Hakone Gardens are 18 acres of lush, serene, beautiful landscaping near the wineries of the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Visiting on a Saturday morning in January ensures that you will find solitude between the sweet blossoms.

NOTE: They open at 11 on weekends, not 10.

West of One : Driving down the coast, you may be lucky enough to land above a Mexican cantina in Capitola and catch some good light in Big Sur.

Point Arena North : Just south of Point Arena, California, lies Schooner Gulch. Walk along this stretch at low tide and you may find a cluster of round rocks sitting on a plateau of stone.

California Southwards : The road less traveled by us goes south, winds its way past Monterey, past the artichokes and the tourists and the nature preserves. Things never quite thin out or level off, but that's half the fun.

And now we know how the other half lives.

Yosemite in the Rain : Yosemite NP is one of those places that is just so famous, so close to the SF Bay Area, it's impossible not to go. Although it is packed with tourists all year 'round, the sights deserve their recognition. This winter day in early February was the perfect time, as the mountains were curtained with fog, rain, and snow, and the waterfalls were filled to their brims.

Intro to Volcano Country : A night at Gaia, an unexpected retreat. One night of camping under the Castle Crags. I had read that Mt. Shasta was "... a dormant volcano, a defunct ski area and the inspiration behind quite a lot of subpar paintings." After reading that, how can one NOT venture forth to experience it in person? Here is what we found in a scant two-ish days in the area.

Memorial Day road trip through Humboldt State Park to Eureka, CA. We stayed on the Avenue of the Giants and explored the loop connecting Fortuna, Petrolia, and Honeydew, crawling the Lost Coast and all the beautiful foggy mountainsides in-between.
